Quinton Zirretta: Speed, Determination, and a State Championship Mindset
For Quinton Zirretta, success in sports isn’t about luck—it’s about effort. “Putting the work in even when I didn’t want to,” he said when asked what it has taken to reach the top. That relentless drive has made him a standout athlete at Idabel High School, where he competes in football and track. With a state title already under his belt, Zirretta isn’t satisfied yet. “We’re going to win state overall this year, no doubt,” he declared.
Zirretta’s journey in athletics truly began when a coach saw something in him early on. “Coach Clayton from Sulphur Springs High School in Texas my freshman year—he really got me into sports,” he shared. That encouragement set him on a path to excellence, culminating in a major career highlight: “Winning state with my 4×100 and 4×200 relay team.” Now, he’s determined to defend that title.
Beyond sports, Zirretta is actively involved in multiple school organizations. “Spanish Club, Leo Club, Key Club, Honors Society,” he listed. His dedication to academics and extracurricular activities reflects his well-rounded approach to life, preparing him for what’s next. “Go to college and study physical science and training,” he said of his future plans.
For Zirretta, competing for Idabel means more than just personal accolades. “Feels like a blessing knowing I got people cheering for me, wishing for me to succeed,” he said. That support fuels his motivation, though he also has a straightforward personal drive: “Money,” he admitted with a laugh. Whether it’s ambition, community pride, or pure love for the game, he’s locked in on making this season one to remember.
