Victor Jefferson, an Idabel High School cross-country and track star on the rise, talks about his athletic path, one that is full of perseverance, challenges and goals for the future.
“My freshmen year, I did not play any sports. Going into my sophomore year, I wanted to get back into sports, so I started with cross country with a couple of my friends.”
Victor’s journey into sports was not about just competition but also about forging bonds and exploring his capabilities alongside his peers. “I was surprised to place at most of the meets, and after the season, I started loving cross country. It showed me a lot and can bring people together to get closer and get to know each other.”
Victor’s passion for running is evident in his commitment to pushing his limits and finding joy in the camaraderie that sports can bring.
“The most difficult challenges at first was to not get tired, so I started running a lot to get my stamina right for when we do run,” Victor said. Balancing rigorous training schedules with academic responsibilities is a testament to Victor’s discipline and determination to excel in all aspects of his life.
Looking at memorable moments, one sticks out for Victor: “One of my favorite memories was going to Ardmore for regionals.” Victor cherishes the experiences and memories created through his sports journey, each event contributing to his growth as an athlete and an individual.
Victor’s determination extends beyond the high school track; his ambitions to continue his athletic career while prioritizing family reflect his grounded and focused approach to life.
“My plan after high school is to go to college to run for cross-country and track, and take care of my family and friends.”
Victor acknowledges the significant role his coaches play in shaping his athletic journey and instilling values of hard work and perseverance.
“Being a part of this team gives me a lot of memories to tell in the future for friends and family.”
