9 Q’s with Idabel’s Quincy Johnson – Presented by Mandy Knowles Shelter Insurance

VYPE: What preparation have you taken this off-season to better equip yourself for the upcoming season?

Quincy Johnson: My preparation this summer for this year was more serious than any other year. I pushed myself hard every day in the weight room and conditioning. Now I see all the work is now paying off.

VYPE: Who has been your favorite coach throughout your career and how did they impact you as a player?

QJ: I’d say Coach Bean, he keeps a drive in us to be the best players on the field no matter what the outcome is.

VYPE: Did you have any teammates that you admire or that supported you?

QJ: Kase Pratt, he was a player everyone would want on their team. I looked up to him because if he was hurt, he still played through it and never complained about anything.

VYPE: Who was your favorite teacher?

QJ: My favorite teacher would be Mrs. Hamilton. She is an English teacher and she’s always been kind to me, and she always was willing to help me throughout any subject. Also, she always told me how good I played after every game!

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

QJI would say leadership and mental toughness. In football, you must be accountable and a motivator for a team to play as one. I’d say it’s now helped me to be this person outside of this sport.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory in your sport?

QJ: My favorite memory would be is when we beat Beggs last year in the playoffs. They were coming off a big win from last week. That feeling when that last buzzer sounded of us knowing we were going to the next round was a feeling everyone doesn’t get.

VYPE: What do you hope to accomplish this season?

QJ:District Champions and to play in the State Championship Game. Our team works hard every day, and they deserve to play for these titles.

VYPE: What matchup are you most looking forward to this season?QJ: Eufaula. Last year, we lost by a touchdown along with a tornado hitting our town back home the same night. We still have a bad taste in our mouth from this, so we were going to get them back this year.

VYPE: What are your plans after high school?

QJ: After high school, I plan to attend Northeastern A&M College for Business Administration and Technology. After my two years there, I will transfer to Southeastern Oklahoma State University and major in occupational safety and health.
