Idabel’s Quince Pond – Football Spotlight

The first thing that comes to mind when Quince Pond thinks about football is legacy. “I want to be known as one of the best backers in Idabel history. Not just that, but to be known as one of the best leaders,” the senior said.

That leadership shows in the way he approaches each season. “My personal goals for this season are to help lead my team to a deep playoff run,” Pond explained. His commitment has set the tone for a program hungry for postseason success.

Team chemistry has been a major highlight this year. “Team morale has been really good this year. The players have shown good chemistry on and off the field, and there’s been a noticeable commitment to supporting each other through both wins and setbacks,” he said. Transitioning with a new coaching staff hasn’t slowed their momentum. “We’re still trying to figure out our flow with a new coaching staff but everyone’s doing good. The energy at practices has stayed positive, and the group seems motivated to keep improving week to week.”

For Pond, the closeness within the roster has made a huge impact. “Everyone has gotten closer with each other and the team has become more like a family than ever,” he said. That brotherhood is why the Warriors have their sights set on December. “Practicing on Thanksgiving break and making a deep playoff run. Looking to play for that gold ball in December.”

Defense is where he sees the team’s edge. “Our biggest strength is our defense. A mix between power and athleticism from all around. People making plays left and right.”

As a middle backer and running back, Pond relies on his preparation and awareness. “I try to think situational football. Looking where the sticks at, learning the opponents’ tendencies during the game. Make my reads and fit in,” he said. “Preparing my body and mind that entire week. Making sure I know what’s going on at all times. Make sure I give my team all I got and leave nothing behind.”

That mindset fuels every snap. “I leave everything I have on the field.”

And his favorite moment so far? “Helping my team win that district title my sophomore year against Eufaula.”
