In Idabel, one young athlete is carving his path through the local cross-country scene.

Victor Jefferson, a student-athlete at Idabel High School, is not just a talented runner; he’s a source of inspiration for his peers and community.

When asked about his favorite coach, Victor couldn’t pick one. He recognized both of his coaches for their unwavering dedication and pushing the team through their limits. He emphasizes that coaches John Harjo and Devon Sanders work the team hard and foster a spirit of determination.

Speaking of his teammates, Victor’s respect and admiration are reserved for Baker Hoskins and Kyson Jefferson: “They are my closest teammates that I have worked in and out of school with; we don’t let each other give up.”

Preparation is key for any successful athlete, and Victor’s offseason regimen is a testament to his dedication. “I walk or run around each day to keep my body in shape and to stay fit,” he said.

Cross country isn’t just a sport; it’s a school of life. “In cross country, you have to work hard for what you want to achieve and do not let the negativity get to your head,” Victor said. “Keep on working.”

Victor’s goals extend beyond personal achievements. He and his team are determined to aim high in the next season: “We hope to achieve making it to state and running our best to support our hometown and to represent our school.”

As Victor looks beyond high school, his future holds the promise of continuing his running journey. “My plans after high school are to keep on running and do great things for my next big step,” he stated.
