Transferring schools isn’t always easy—but for Idabel’s Tyler Dillard, the transition has been nothing short of rewarding. Now a team captain and key contributor on the Warriors baseball team, Dillard has embraced his new role and teammates with confidence and determination.
“Definitely moving schools and getting the feel for the team,” Dillard said, when asked about the most challenging moment of his career. “But I think I handled everything as best I could.”
Even in his first year at Idabel, Tyler quickly connected with the team. His history with many of his teammates helped build trust and chemistry from day one.
“I feel like we have pretty decent chemistry,” he said. “This is my first year at the school, but I’ve known or either played with or against [them] my whole life, so we pretty much all know each other.”
Dillard was introduced to baseball at a young age, and the love for the game has only grown stronger.
“My dad was the first to introduce baseball to me, and I picked it up quickly,” he said. “It’s been my favorite sport ever since.”
As a captain, he brings energy and encouragement to the team every time they hit the field.
“I try to keep the team motivated and keep their morale up during the games,” he said.
Tyler has earned his share of accolades, including offensive and defensive player of the year, as well as team MVP. But despite the individual awards, his focus remains on team success.
“To finish the season out the best we can and to hopefully end with a positive record,” he said of his goals.
Off the field, Dillard is just as grounded. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends. After high school, he plans to attend OSU-IT to earn his electrical license, but he’s keeping the door open for collegiate baseball opportunities.
Through it all, his dad and grandma remain his biggest inspirations.
“If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be playing today,” Dillard said. “They’ve been with me through everything.”
For younger athletes looking to follow in his footsteps, Dillard keeps it simple: “Keep hustling and don’t give up. If you just push yourself, you’ll be good.”
