Mya Murray is more than just a cheerleader at Idabel High School; she’s a powerhouse across multiple sports. In addition to cheer, Mya is involved in powerlifting, softball, and track and field, showcasing a rare combination of dedication, athleticism and school spirit.

Motivation runs deep for Mya, who cites her family, especially her mother, as the driving force behind her success. “What motivates me is the knowledge of the sacrifices my family has made to ensure my success, especially the time, effort, and energy my mom has invested in helping me become the person I am today,” Mya shared. It’s clear that this awareness of her mother’s efforts has shaped not only her work ethic but also her desire to honor those sacrifices through excellence. “I am deeply aware of the challenges she has faced and the dedication she has shown, which fuels my drive to excel.”

When asked about her role models, Mya’s answer reflects her deep sense of gratitude and patriotism. “Some of my biggest role models and influences are the men and women who have fought for our country to create a safe environment for everyone,” she said. Their sacrifices inspire Mya to appreciate the liberties she enjoys and work hard in all she does, both on the field and in life. “I aspire to honor their sacrifices by contributing positively to my community and making the most of the opportunities they fought to protect.”

Her high school career is marked by outstanding achievements, particularly in powerlifting, where she has already set seven state records in Oklahoma. “The highlight of my career has been winning back-to-back state championships in girls’ powerlifting in the 181-pound weight class,” Mya noted, proudly reflecting on her hard-earned success.

Mya is also deeply involved in school activities, serving as president of her junior class, President of Kiamichi Tech Careers, and holding leadership positions in numerous other clubs. After high school, Mya plans to enlist in the National Guard, attend college, and pursue powerlifting, aiming to compete in the Olympics.

For Mya, representing Idabel High School is a matter of pride and responsibility: “It’s about honoring the support I receive and giving back through my efforts and achievements.”
