Zoe Rolen, a sophomore at Idabel High School with a passion for knowledge, imparts her tutelage on the academic team with her quick wit and love for learning.
Zoe’s journey with the academic team began in middle school, where the allure of rapid-fire questions and the thrill of competition beckoned her. “I realized how much fun it was and have continued to participate every year since,” Zoe said.
The first time Zoe buzzed in during a competition is etched in her memory. “My most memorable experience is the first time I got a question right,” she reflected.
Within the diverse spectrum of academic subjects, Zoe finds a special affinity for language arts and Spanish. These topics, rich in linguistic exploration, captivate her interest and enthusiasm.
Preparing for academic competitions involves a collective effort. “To prepare for meets, we will have team practices where we answer questions from past years and meets,” Zoe explained, shedding light on the collaborative and strategic approach embraced by the academic team.
Beyond the buzzers and competitions, Zoe recognizes the profound impact on her personal and academic growth. “It has given me the confidence to answer questions in class if I believe I have the correct answer.”
Navigating the dual responsibilities of academic team commitments and other school activities requires meticulous planning. “A calendar and a planner, I have to write it all down,” Zoe noted.
For those contemplating joining the academic team, Zoe’s advice is simple and resounding: “Just do it, you will never regret it.”
Success in academic competitions demands more than just knowledge—it requires quick thinking. “You just need to be a fast thinker because you have a set time limit to answer,” Zoe advised, emphasizing the importance of agility in thought.
The academic team, with its constant pursuit of knowledge, has left an indelible mark on Zoe’s aspirations. “Being pushed to learn many things teaches me that I can push myself to do or be anything I put my mind to.”
As the academic journey unfolds, Zoe envisions a future adorned with academic pursuits. “I want to attend OU medical school and study to become an orthopedic surgeon.”
