The Idabel Warriors boys basketball team is ready to make their mark in the upcoming 2023-24 season. With a remarkable 18-9 record last year and a talented roster, they are setting their sights high. Led by head coach Burtchal Griffin, the Warriors had a fantastic run last season, making it to the Area Tournament. This year, they return with a lineup that includes four freshmen, four sophomores, three juniors and one senior, forming a balanced and enthusiastic squad. “Our team’s top-five scorers are back from last year’s team, and we’re excited,” Griffin said. Shane Threadgill (6-2, Jr.) and John Paul Sumo (5-11, Sr.) are set to be the driving forces for the Warriors this season. Threadgill is a high-scoring guard averaging 21 points per game. Sumo, a versatile athlete, will complement Threadgill’s efforts and help lead the team to success. Keep an eye on Baker Hoskin (6-5, So.), a forward-guard who can score from all three levels – layups, mid-range and three-pointers. His offensive prowess will be crucial for the team’s state tournament aspirations. Jabari Threadgill (5-11, Sr.) the senior captain, brings leadership, hustle and steals to the team. He’s a player who doesn’t focus on personal accolades but is all about winning and contributing to the team’s success. Cordavious Hankin (6-1, Jr.), the team co-captain, leads both on and off the court. He’s a versatile leader, working at McDonald’s, excelling as a choir singer in his church and being one of the top scorers on the basketball team. Hankin’s well-rounded leadership will be invaluable. The Idabel Warriors are ready to continue their journey of success in the 2023-24 season. With a diverse and talented roster and strong leadership, they aim to achieve greatness.
